You just don't expect to see such a beautiful church in the shabby settings of a ghost/tourist town. One block off main street. More

The church is quite beautiful and has a fantasitc history revolving around its foundig priest, Monsignor Minogue. The docent gave a very lively talk about the church, as well as the influence and the import of the Mackey family...(and she took on our group even though it was close to closing--she had a great spirit). Recommmended. More

I love visiting St. Mary in the Mountains Catholic Church. (I'm not Catholic) This is the most beautiful church (in my opinion) in the entire area. The stained glass, woodwork and architecture rivals those seen in Europe. The peace of mind you acquire while you are surrounded by this historic beauty is priceless. Well worth taking a side trip to... More

I think it's the oldest Catholic Church in Nevada.. beautiful.. check out the wines they sell at the gift shop.. grapes are grown in Napa, but they sell the bottles here, Actually Catholic Churches are not allowed to sell libations, but this one does--- as a for them to support themselves.. Also, one of the bottle is named Mad Monk...... More

There's something intangibly beautiful about this church. I'm not Catholic - and yet, when I'm there, I can feel the presence of God. Beautiful stained glass windows, charming music, and flickering candles all add to the experience. Stop in for a while, just to absorb, to think, to pray. Tis the coolest thing in Virginia City! Virginia City is nestled in the valley between some decent-size mountains (for a flat-lander) just south of Reno, Nevada. Even in the chill of Fall-going-into-Winter, this is a fun place to visit. Many of the residents dress in 1800s apparel and really hang around all day. The Catholic church just off the main street is a beautiful site to visit.... More
