Our destination was Kearney and the Great Platte River Road Archway, but it was early in the day as we approached Grand Island. The AAA guidebook suggested the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer. We decided to take a look, expecting nothing unusual. OMG! What a marvelous museum with informed guides, well-kept 1890s "Railroad Town," interesting Lincoln Highway display, and... More

An 1890’s town covering 200 acres. There was a beautiful large main building with lots of original exhibited artifacts – washing machine, Steinway piano and organ, farming implements, wagon, blacksmith billow, lace doilies, 1890’s train town which had many homes, one of which Henry Fonda lived in as a baby. A planning mill where a man used lathes and other... More

This museum is interesting just by the architecture of the main building compared to what they are representing. The old buildings include some cool stuff, I've even stolen design ideas from a house there that Henry Fonda lived in. Sometimes they have demonstrations but you should check ahead if seeing that is important to you. Fun stop on a road... More

A great place to see how the people of the 1800s lived in the mid west. Very nice village lay out. Wish we had more time to spend, but we got there in the afternoon. Suggest start in the morning and see it all.

I grew up in Grand Island and shamefully admit I hated museums when I was little. Since growing older, I have discovered a love of history. Stuhr Museum is a fantastic museum. The "town" is a wonderful place to learn of our history and culture in the midwest.

We visit when our kids do the summer school. The summer school program is well worth the time and money for kids/grandkids.

Excellent sort of living history museum with lots of buildings and displays. Well worth the time. During the summer there are often several activities going on.

If you're traveling through Nebraska and have a little extra time, set aside an afternoon to visit the Stuhr Museum. I've been here many, many times since I was very young, and it's still such a great experience all these years later. There's a main museum building with wonderful exhibits from the early days of the midwest. There is also... More

We loved this museum. I took my year old son, and 2 high school foreign exchange students. We were visiting the area for a wedding and stopped here. It's a lot of walking, but it adds to the experience of the prairie. We were there in the off season, so not much was open, but we still really enjoyed it.... More

There are lots of cool things to see and do at Stuhr Museum, inside the (air conditioned!) main building and outside. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable and there is a mercantile where you can buy all kinds of "old fashioned" stuff. Kids and adults will enjoy this place, railroad town is especially cool. Walk along the boardwalk and... More
