This was definitely a change of pace. We saw no other cars. Nor did we see animals other than a bison. It was pretty drive, but a rough one. Make sure you are up to a bumpy rough ride.

We traversed the Blacktail Plateau Drive 3 times when we were in Yellowstone. The first was in the middle of the day. We found birds, small wildlife and tracks but no large wildlife. The second time around there were some deer. Our third time was a charm. Two antelope going head to head on the road with the one "posing"...

i love it up there, the only think is they close it early in the fall and don't reopen it . great wildlife viewing,no trafic.
This was a beautiful change of pace from the steady flow of cars traversing the roads near Yellowstone. Though scenic, it offered little in the way of wildlife viewing and was disappointing in that respect. The road is gravel and a bit rough but very secluded with almost no other cars to be seen. This makes it an enjoyable 'private'...

Traveled this road in mid-September during fire season and the various blazes in and around the park left a haze of smoke that seemed to fill the world during our stay. At times our eyes burned and we could actually smell smoke. The first mile has some rough potholes, pay attention to the road if you're traveling Blacktail Plateau in...

A nice detour off the main road on this gravel, and slightly bumpy (!) one-way road. If you're in the area it's good to get off the beaten track and away from the crouds, so you stand a better chance of seeing wildlife.
Took this road with the hopes of seeing wildlife. I went just after sunrise and saw one bison. The road was gravel and bumpy. I did it in a passenger car and had no problems but I had wished that half way through I could have gotten out. I only came across 2 other cars so if you are looking...

We liked this one way road. If you don't like dirt, stones, and going around 25 to 30 mile an hour this road is not for you. You are basically by yourselves and this is where we sat and watched our only black bear in the park. We like to get away from the crowds and this road was perfect....

This is a gravel road parallel to the Mammoth-Tower connector in Yellowstone. It runs west to east so it is a good alternative on the way to Tower. Nice places to pull out along the way for photos. Black bear were seen there in Sep 2012 but we missed them.
We had to abort this horrible road and back out. Our vehicle is 4WD and has high clearance, but we refused to endure 7 miles of this. I'm talking 1 ft ruts, not a washboard.
