The terrain is covered by bluffs overlooking the lake and stands of oak, hickory and maple that are filled with white-tailed deer, turkey and other wildlife. Numerous picnic areas, two four-lane boat ramps and more than six miles of hiking trails with lake views offer something for everyone. « less

This park is a great place for a family. In fact we met people that had come from several states for reunions. Fishing, a wonderful waterpark, crafts for kids and movie nights. The park has several types of cabins, condos and an RV park. Also a small resturant and general store, very nice we've stayed twice and are going again next month. More

The state park has a handful of camping cabins available. They're fairly new constructions made of pine. All wood interior and furniture. Double bed, futon, and a tiny loft for children. Complete with electricity, lights, small fridge, microwave, kitchen table, and heating/AC. There's a bench on the porch, an outdoor picnic table, grill and fire pit. 4 of the cabins... More

The Shrine is really an interesting place to visit. It has the birth home of Mark Twain, furniture from his Hartford home, and the original manuscript of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Various exhibits display life in Florida MO at the time of his birth. Although older children would enjoy this---it seems mostly for adults and fans of Mark Twain.... More

Mark Twain Lake was opened 26 years ago. It was built to help with flood control of the Salt River, which flows into the Mississippi River in NE Missouri. The lake has 285 miles of natural shoreline and around 18,000 acres of water. Sport fishermen are plentiful here. The lake is known for its crappie fishing, and many bass tournaments... More

Nice size lake that doesn't get a lot of large cruisers or speedboats like the Lake of the Ozarks. Homes and businesses cannot be built directly on the lake, so very quiet and calm for a family outing. The beach at Spalding landing was less than desirable (not real sandy), but the water is sure cleaner than the Mississippi. We... More
