The creek running through the park screams the Ozarks. There is a nice mix of igneous and sedimentary rock which makes it unique. I saw three pileated woodpeckers on a past visit. The Pickle Springs Natural Area adjacent to the park is equally beautiful. More

The park has several lengths of trails and camping for a day hike to an overnight. In "60 Hikes within 60 Miles of Saint Louis". Better choice is to stop at the nearby Pickle Creek Natural Area for a great 2-mile hike loaded with features and views. More

Hawn State Park has some wonderful hiking trails. The main 6-mile trail climbs to a hillcrest where you can see the beautiful surrounding countryside. The first part of the trail is along a creek and is very nice. There are some nice picnic areas as well. More
