The Lewis & Clarke movie was outstanding and really creates an appreciation for their accomplishment. The museum is just a typical museum. It's well done, but didn't really draw us in and keep my 7 year old on target. The tram to the top, while I guess it's considered a must-do, was my least favorite part. It's cramped and crowded... This museum has a couple of neat looking exhibits but you really don't need to spend more than a few minutes here before getting bored. It provides just enough entertainment until you can see the main attraction here which is the arch. More

This is a visually stunning museum and well worth exploring for an hour or two (or more if you want to watch either of two movies available) when visiting the Gateway Arch. Other reviewers have mentioned the layout; while I found it interesting and beautiful, I thought it was confusing and somewhat disjointed. Also, the signage on some of the... More

This was the first museum in the country that I saw that involved multi-media. As a pioneer, they set the bar high. I love the choice the visitor has to either walk through the decades in a particular topic area (pioneers for instance) or walk in a circle to get the full scope of all the events and categories in... The Museum of Westward Expansion exceeded my expectations for a history museum. The collection is well organized and thoughtfully displayed. A stunning collection of panoramic photos illustrate passages from diaries of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Another section explains the history of treaties, relations, and relocation of Native American tribes. Plan to spend at least two hours in the museum... More

Located under the Arch;excellent exhibits telling the story of Lewis and Clarks adventures exploring Jefferson's Louisianna Purchase. You will love it if you enjoy US history and the stories about learning about the people and land of the West. Visit here if you only have one day in St. Louis More

It's a good place to spend the time you're waiting for your ride to the top of the arch, but it has seen better, fresher days. More

For an NPS-related museum, this one is a bit lacking. Good information and quotes on the wall - but that's stuff you can get from books. Neat robotics bring some of the diaramas to life and there's a nice collection of peace medals. But other than that (and some wagon / cowboy memorabelia), it's a bit light on really good... More
