Very cool location and building was neat. The people inside were from all walks of life. Quite a strange atmosphere inside but again worth a stop especially if you like books!
We came to this part of Doentown - not to see the library itself - but the outside of the neighbouring multi storey car park ... a block of books... great way to disguise an other wise ugly building.
KC is so architecturally interesting! We loved the Central library and the gorgeous architecture (former bank from the 20's) and the vault in the basement is amazing in its technology from back then. The parking lot with the outside fresco painted as books is interesting in and of itself. Be sure and eat at the Majestic, which is preserved in... More
The Kansas City library offers great book talks with authors and other enrichment activities. The children's section seems sparse but just ask a librarian and they will help from the book in the back room!
The library draws in the community with speakers that discuss various books and topics. Great architecture and the mural across from the downtown library is great!
The doors of the entrance was beautiful. We went inside to just look and the antique clocks and furniture there are just beautiful. The children's library was nice with the large books at the entrance and the side of the building with all the giant books with the titles were very nicely done. I wanted to take a photo from... More
The Kansas city Public LIBRARY is no ordinary mundane library, to visit the downtown central Kansas City PUBLIC LIBRARY is an Attractions' - ATTRACTION. Of course there are shelves and isles and isles of books, dvds and cds: but every community should be so fortunate to have the features of a staff and programming second- to NONE from side of... More
Glad this old, elegant bank building was turned into a library, and that the vault doors were saved and on display. The library is well kept up with the main floor décor maintained and displayed. Another good structure for history buffs.
I can't comment on the book selection, and it costs $$ to rent movies, but the library building is worth a visit. Retrofitted from an old bank, the library is a cool visit. Be sure to check out the giant chess set on the roof top deck.
I had never been to a "big City" library before. I grew up in Olathe and the library was nice there. But here - 5 stories?? Un-real. I can't wait to bring the grandkids up to the children's part - looks like my boys will have a blast here!
