Visitors to Bollinger Mill State Historic Site can watch corn being ground into meal at the massive four-story mill that dates to the Civil War era and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Or they can stroll through the Burfordville Covered Bridge, one of just four covered bridges that remain in Missouri. The site’s rustic setting offers ample picnicking and exploration opportunities along the Whitewater River. « less

This is a fun place to visit if you are near Jackson or Cape Girardeau, MO. You can walk across the covered bridge or picnic beside the old mill. Good for a day trip off the beaten path. More

She knew the history and explained extremely well the functions of the several sets of milling... More

The park around the mill and the covered bridge next door to the mill were spectacularly beautiful and very well maintained. The mill was beautiful and the first floor was bearable in the heat. The upper three floors were barely bearable in the heat, and the guide was less than less than professional in his delivery. He needs much more... More

Bollinger Mill is a great example of early-American craftsmanship, in producing a grain product by harnessing waterpower. This mill, still being restored at the time of this writing, is toured on several levels. It is intended to restore it to a working mill sometime in the future. The lower two levels are self-guided and free. There are plenty of examples... More
