It took a lot of years, but last year we finally completed driving all the way around Lake Superior. As it turns out, we had saved the best part for last. The North Shore is stunning - great views, spectacular parks, fantastic restaurants, first class lodging, excellent State Parks. Most appreciated, at this stage of my life, was being able... More

I heard so much about the North Shore Drive and it did not disappoint. We loved the scenery and the lake. Be sure to stop in Two Harbors and check out the lighthouse, museum and the trains. We really liked Two Harbors. Then there is Silver Bay and Betty's Pies, and the Agate Shop with all sorts of neat rocks... More

We traveled the North Shore Scenic Drive and it didn't have the same appeal as the first time. It appeared that several small shops either went out of business or had not opened for the season. However it was nice to see our favorite small shop was still open, Mocha Moose! More

I always love the scenery along the north shore. Especially when there is a storm that throws up huge waves. More

This place blew our minds! When you walk in it looks like a typical north shore cafe (nice, clean, roomy, etc.) we liked the place, just were not prepared for the extraordinary food to come. We have been blessed to eat meals all over the world, so when they began serving us our food, appetizer was tuna tacos, pistacio crusted... More

Hwy 61 offers plenty of view of the "big lake." This alone makes it worth your while. The fall colors aren't as spectacular as what you can see going inland a little bit - especially in the Lutsen/Tofte area, but there is something to be said about golden birches framed against bright blue water. The towns along the way have... More

The drive along the North Shore is a must for us almost every year. Heading up out of Duluth we take the scenic route instead of the expressway and stop along the way for beautiful views, rocky beaches, and the delicious New Scenic Cafe. Continuing north of Two Harbors we like all of the State Parks. There are so many... More

We drove all the way up to the Canadian border. We had a lot of fun stopping at all the state parks and little local shops along the way. I recommend buying an annual state park pass rather than paying each fee. My favorite was the Split Rock Light House. Would definitely go back when they were open for tours. More
