The Michigan Historical Museum is a great tour through the history of Michigan from the early days of mining and logging through the automotive industries rise in the last century. You can spin through and get a peek at everything in about an hour or you can spend time with each exhibit and learn quite a bit about Michigan's history. More

Great place to take young (or old!) children. I can't believe it's free! Has interactive exhibits and plenty of parking. Kind of odd hours. Probably not some place you can go to every weekend, but good place to take kids on a rainy day or out-of-town friends and family. More
