I'm not an "organized" tour kind of guy; frankly, I'd rather have hemmorhroid surgery (no experience in that "area" by the way) then get trapped into or on a cheesy tourist tour where there's no hope for anything close to a graceful exit. So, it was with a certain level of trepidation that I, yes me alone, initiated this plan... More

I went on the 3hr "Miner's Underground" tour and thought it was great. My guide (Marge) was very knowledgeable of the mine and the geology of the area. She also told great stories of what it was like to be working at the mine 100+ years ago. It was fascinating to learn how the copper was extracted, how the earth... More

This place is really, really cool - both figuratively and literally. The mine is 48 degrees inside, so be sure to bring a jacket with you. We took the basic tour with lasted around 45 minutes because we were concerned about how strenuous the tour might be on a member of our party who has some medical issues, but we... More

My husband and I took a Captain's Tour and we had two tour guides that brought us in and fully customized our tour based on what we had previously seen on other tours and what we were most interested in seeing. The tour guides were fun and easygoing. They certainly made the tour a blast! An authentic "mine style" lunch... More

As a retired earth science teacher, this was the best mine tour I've been on. My wife and I (both closer to 70 than 60) took the 3 hour Miner's Tour. The rappelling was a real adventure and the guide we had (Diane) was a true professional. If you only visit one copper mine in the UP, make it the... More

Very interesting tour of a now-closed copper mine. We took the medium-length Prospector's Tour and had no trouble navigating the trails, even though the floor is uneven and wet in spots. The sheer size of the mine is incredible, and our guide did a nice job of answering questions and explaining the history of copper mining in the area. It's... More

A hidden treasure. The experience itself is worth the trip. The guides were knowledgeable and the grounds were well kept. A must see for anyone.

We drove and extra 25 miles out of our way after seeing plenty of advertisements and fliers for this mine to no avail when we arrived and we found it closed! We re read all our info and no where did it state that it is not open till memorial day. Apparently we are a week early :( So here... More

Hope you get a chance to stop by again! We apologize as the Season start/finish times were mistakenly omitted from one version of our brochures. This will be added back onto any future printings. Our official operating season is Memorial Day Weekend through Mid-October. Open seven days a week, closed on Wednesdays after Labor Day. More

Good touristy event pertaining to the heritage of mining so important to the area. When we went they offered repelling for the more adventurous; the walking tour was easy for an average person.
