Wonderful experience to be right next to the bi-planes as they fire up and take off, and fun to see them swoop over the restaurant and land. The Katama Airfield Restaurant is jammed for breakfast on the weekends for its location and fun for the kids and the very good diner type food, and great servers.

You land on a grass strip and taxi to the restaurant to get your scallops and burgers (which are so friggin' good people come here to this quiet beach for them) and you taxi over to the beach, tie down, and spend a day of fun in the sun. Aces all around. Amazing scene. Do it!

While I sat on the beach with my friend our husbands went over to Katama Airfield. When they returned we found out they went for a ride on a WWII prop plane, flew over the beach and saw us, and had an amazing view of the island! I wonder if I would have gone????

Any ride you want to take can happen there, from single engine, gliders, and sliders! It is very laid back and close to Winnetu

Neat restaurant that is very popular. Field offers bi-plane, glider and other air rides for adults and children but the rides are expensive.

Nothing compares to seeing the island from the air with the excellent guides from Classic Aviators! We all went, ages 8 - 80 and took the thrill ride with barrel rolls and other death-defying tricks! Eat at the diner BEFORE you go up!

I thoroughly enjoyed flying my Skyhawk to Katama Airfield. Being based on a short grass strip, the 1B2 runways seemed immense. Stopped off for ice cream at Right Forks Restaurant, then taxied to the ocean end of the field. Less than a 200' walk to a beautiful beach. The small fee for using the field was well worth it. Great... More

Katama airfield is a short bike ride from Edgartown on paved bike paths. The grass runways are the busiest grass strips in the country. Pilots were flying in from all over the Northeast the Sunday we visited. The beach is on one end the road to town on the other. Families were enjoying huge omelets for brunch and folks were... More

We stay in Hyannis, for cheaper accomodation costs during high season, fly in to Katama, enjoy a meal on at the Right Fork diner, and then hop on the bus. The bus stop is right across the street and costs $1 to Edgartown. If you have folding bikes, this is a general aviation paradise, as there are bike paths everywhere.... More
