I was surprised by the variety of mead produced by the Maine Mead Works. We arrived near closing and they graciously served us samples and told us about the meads. Unfortunately, we weren't in time to get a tour. Go there early enough to catch that!

I went in wanting to try their keg cider. I came out loving the cider and having had an amazing experience. The hostess was delightful and taught us so much about the process of creating mead. There was a steady stream of tourists coming and going, even on a dreary February afternoon. If you're a Portland local and haven't learned...

If you are ever walking around in Portland or just driving by on 295, stop in, especially around tour time. The tour was informative and interesting. The tasting is great since you get to taste 10 different mead wines. The people working there are very nice and are proud of their mead wine.
My boyfriend and I stopped here while we were vacationing in November. Wow! What an unexpected and pleasant experience. We were interested in tasting, thinking it would be like the typical "wine" tasting - pay a fee, pick four or so wines etc. etc. ... but no! We went to Maine Mead Works with expectations of tasting what we thought was mead but left with a new appreciation for their work. The honey basis of the drink is definitely there to be enjoyed and appreciated, but I really like the difference in taste that the Honeymead product has. It's delicious and very reasonably priced.
We did the free mead tasting here. Great staff and great mead. Wish we lived closer to visit more often! We ended up buying 3 bottles.
Free tasting w/ friendly staff. They have several interesting takes on mead to try. Family friendly as well. Glad we stopped by.
We went here for a tasting and it was not what we expected. We had never had Mead before and were looking for something sweeter. We were told this specific mead was made to be drinkable like a wine so you could enjoy it all night long. Was hoping for a more "true" mead experience.
Clean facility and they do...

We had only tried Mead once and it was a painful experience since it was a home made attempt of a friend of ours. Thank you Mead works for sheding the light on the real thing. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the Mead was actually very good. We bought a bottle of the Lavender one. Who would have...

The woman serving was very friendly and we all had a great time sampling the meads. Bought 2 bottles one strawberry and the other dry hopped mead. Good experience,...
