Sailing the coast of Maine is one of those things that are hard to explain. It just does not get any better. Jack and Barbara have been taking passengers out on the Surprise for ever it seems. They leave the dock at the public landing in Camden, Maine several times a day when the weather is permitting. Up to a... More

Had a great morning sail as Captain Jack called "The best day of the summer for sailing".The bay was like a mirror ,not a cloud in the sky.Captain Jack kept all aboard laughing with stories about town, as well as his family's life aboard the ship.We will be back aboard this August ,this time with the family.A highlight of our... If you are looking for an extraordinary 2 hour sail on the sound in Camden you simply must book the Surprise. Besides the fact that it is an absolutely beautiful, well loved 93 year old craft, the spirit of Captain Jack and his life-long first mate Barbara was unmatched. They are an adorable sea smart couple that work well together.... More

This was one of those life's perfect moments in time. Sail with Captain Jack and his wife, Barbara and you will have a memory of a lifetime. Words can't describe it. You just have to be experience it. This two hour sail is well worth the $35 per they charge. More

My husband and I went on the 4:30 sail for our 6th anniversary. It was FANTASTIC - I had never sailed at all before and my husband hadn't in years. It was soo much fun. We had a beautiful evening (our anniversary gift from God) and the conditions we perfect. When we turned around we really started hauling and it... More

This was our third trip to Camden, and we wanted to get out on the water for a differet view of the area. We had three obvious choices and picked the first one for no particular reason. For $35 we got a nice two hour trip with Captain Jack and his wife Barbara. They answered any questions we had and... More

This is my twentieth summer going for a sail on "Surprise" and it is always the first thing I want to do when I arrive in Camden. Barbara and Jack make it such a special experience and I never tire of being out in Penobscot bay on their beautiful schooner. More

While on a long weekend visit to Camden, Maine, we received a recommendation to take a two hour sail on the "Surprise", one of the Windjammer Schooners in the harbor. It was a highlight of our trip. The owner/captains were knowledgeable, engaging, funny and caring. They managed to get every passenger to open up and share experiences, stories so that... More
