I enjoyed visiting Vermilionville. I would suggest visiting the Acadian culture center next door before you visit so you can get an overview of the Cajun history. We enjoyed a stroll through this wooded living history museum and lunch in the cafe serving Cajun food.

The village of settler era buildings is authentic and well maintained, with friendly and helpful tour guides to explain key parts. We also enjoyed the flowering trees and the attention to labeling the trees and herbs. Quite a good gift shop also, but note the early closing time in the afternoon.

As "living Museums" go, this one is small in size. The staff are uniformly friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The museum offers a good opportunity to glimpse aspects of the day-to-day life of the early Cajun settlers. As someone with little knowledge of Cajun history, the tour gave us an informative insight into the origins and development of Cajun life in Lafayette. The self guided tour is easy to follow, and listening to the Cajun music jam session was just brilliant.
