We thoroughly enjoyed the Dixie Bell cruise which you can purchase separately. It took us into some "wild forest areas" and we learned some history. At Shaker Village, the architectural tours of the meeting house were very good. Other than that we just enjoyed doing our own walking tours. Going to Shaker Village brought up questions so we spent some... More

Spending a peaceful couple of hours aboard a period stern wheel river boat to watch Great Blue Herrons feed their young was a rejuvenating experience. The weather was perfect, the river calm, and we were joined by volunteer naturalist who shared knowledge of bird calls and river history. A good addition to the whole Pleasant Hill experience. More

My wife and I visit the Village every time we feel the need for peace and quiet. I'm especially fond of a winter visit when there’s no moon; the star or lovely. But then a warm June night when the fireflies are about is wonderful as well. More

A pleasant drive is one of the highlights to the authentic restaurant run by the Shaker Community. The glazed carrots with the honey/mayonnaise sauce is to DIE FOR! More

We took several of the tours and the tour guides were, on the whole, very good and knowledgeable. This is a good place to learn about the history of spiritual/utopian revivals. Be sure to visit the farm at the west end, the staff there were very helpful. This is a site were there is a lot of walking so be... More

Any trip to the Lexington area should include a stop at Shaker Village. It is so well maintained, and the restaurant is great. The service is wonderful, and most comes from the garden, and if not that, then the local area. Not crowded in the ususal "touristy" way that many attractions are. Very informative and relaxing. Took the tour and guide was excellent. Only saw a couple of the people working as too early in the season for others. Great gift shops. Had dinner there and was excellent. Be sure to drive or walk around the grounds as well. It was a great learning experience in spite of visiting this time of year. More

This site combines wandering at will with knowledgeable docents in character. The docents provide much information and you can ask as many questions as you like without holding up a group as in a conventional tour. The buildings are wonderful to wander through, and the exhibits are interesting. There are 2 gift shops with really high quality offerings. There are... More
