Although not quite a good as the reefs near Cairns, this island offers a great day out for some excellent snorkelling. It has the added advantage of being able to walk around the island, which you can't do on an outer reef experience. Exotic fish and many different forms of coral are on show. Turtles are quite common here too.... More

LMI is the closest GBR island to Brisbane and is accessed by boat - Lady Elliot Island in the same area is accessed by air. The boat, a large catamaran leaves from the marina at the Town of 1770 of Captain Cook fame and is some 6kms from the town of Agnes Water. The trip takes about 2 hours and... More

I am not sure if Lady Musgrave Island is the best place to see the Great Barrier Reef but given it is at the southern tip of the reef it is accessible to those visiting Brisbane without having to worry about the time or expense to get to Cairns. The island is easily accessible from 1770/Agnes Water. It should really... More

Took the 2 hour boat ride to the Lady Musgrave Island. Went on a nature walk on the island. Many types of wild birds who are not afraid of the humans! Something different! After that, went back to the floating pontoon. Went on a semi-submarine (a boat with a deep keel, with glass on both sides), and was shown the... More

If you're only planning on taking one trip the the reef this is definitely on to consider. The water is incredibly clear and the fish and turtles were in abundance. I only went to Lady Musgrave and Whitehaven beach. Although the beach was a great experience, Lady Musgrave is the better choice for snorkelling.

We went out to Lady Musgrave Island with Lady Musgrave Cruises for a day whilst staying at Agnes Water. It was a fantastic day, with the snorkelling being the highlight of the trip. The day was excellent plenty of food and all the staff were fantastic. I recommend this trip to anyone wanting a great day of scenery and action.... More

First of all, listen to their advice about motion sickness. The day seemed pretty calm on the coast but we took their advice about taking pills and were glad we did, many people were sick on the way over, as the boat is fighting the swells to get out to the island and reef (depending on tides). We are not... More

We were told that this was the un crowded But Best place to see the Great Barrier Reef . Our Brisbane friends were correct. You leave Brisbane & travel North ,pass Australian Zoo , and turn Right to Agnes Water ( Good Motel ) & onto 1770 . Here the Fast Catamaran leaves for the 1.5. hrs boat trip to... More

We were picked up at the resort and I was surprised to be charged for the short trip to the boat. On most of these sorts of trips pick-up is free particularly given the cost of the trip. The sea was bit rough and unfortunately one boat passenger had an accident on the trip to the reef which meant we... More

The only bad thing is the time it takes to get ot to the reef -75mins- The rest is just wonderful. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, with all the equipment supplied. The experience of snorkelling was fantastic. As I am not confident swimmer I wore a wetsuit and floatation device, which took all the stress away. The walk... More
