This was at least an early, and perhaps the FIRST, museum to create dioramas showing animals in a native habitat. It's a small museum but very accessible and nicely done. The architecture of the building is something to appreciate as well.

Great displays - fun for the kids & adults. Go down to the bottom floor & hit the bee hive on the top floor. Restrooms are quite nice.

Active Apiary(bees) General Custers horse, some of the best displays of tar-pits and thier results outside of the LA Basin, and wonderful displays of fossils from all over. Allow a fair amount of time for browsing, soem fo the small displays are quite interesting. Multi-story elevators are slow but there are plenty of stairs.

Lots of birds, snakes, and animals. Even a stuffed horse from Custer's battle. Mostly dead things, but some live things.

Long before I ever visited Denver’s Natural History Museum (now Science and Nature), Chicago’s Field Museum, or London’s British Museum, I visited KU’s Natural History Museum many many times. A recent visit revealed that it’s a little old and tired now, but still a fun place to stop. They finally seem to be making concerted efforts to update this museum....

Great set of exhibits given the very limited funding this place has. Admission is "good will" and from what I saw, few people had any "will", good or bad. Staff (college kids) friendly and helpful. Behind the scenes people absolutely awesome!

In my opinion, this is one of the real attractions for Lawrence as this museum rivals that of many larger cities in quality and number of offerings. People of all ages will enjoy it.

Admission is free, but a donation is recommended. There are three floors of fossils, taxidermy wildlife scenery and a kids "bug" area. Probably a good place to take young kids vs. an art museum plus they will recognize various animals. You should probably be in and out within an hour.
