Had a lovely walk on a Sunday afternoon, spotlessly clean, lots to see along the way, also saw a pink dog!!! Memorial to 911 near the Indiana Museum ( museum closed when we arrived). Small cafe.
We walked the canal at all different times of the day. We felt safe at all times. It is clean and well taken care of. You can rent paddle boats or bikes to enjoy the canal. Make sure you take bread to feed all the ducks.
The Central Canal offers a multitude of reasons to visit it while you're in Indianapolis. Residents already know what I mean so this isn't aimed at them.
Fitness: If you're lucky enough to get a hotel on the canal or are close enough to walk to it from your hotel of choice, it serves as a great place to get...

This is probably my favorite attraction in Indianapolis. The canal is beautiful to walk along, with plenty of greenery, murals, water features and charming bridges. On a sunny day, there is nothing more relaxing than a stroll along the canal. There are several eateries along the canal as well as a few museums to visit (3 that I can think...

Very nice and peaceful, and very well manicured. Takes you through the heart of downtown Indianapolis.
Did not know about the canal before I saw it! Loved it! We took long walks and could not believe how clean and safe it is at all times. Next visit, we will be renting a paddle-boat for the day.
Husband and I took our 11 month old for a day trip on the canal. We love walking and being outdoors, and the canal is an awesome location. Family (and pet!) friendly. You are able to access lots of different attractions right from the canal, including the Indianapolis zoo and the museum. Lots of artwork, water falls/fountains, plenty of ducks...

I'm a native of Indianapolis but never took a walk along the Canal until now. My sister and I parked on Michigan Street and took a staircase down to the Canal. As we walked along we saw joggers, pedal bikers, and walkers. At the north end, we stopped for lunch at the Creation Cafe. Since the canal is mostly residential...

This could be a central part of downtown Indianapolis if they put some money into it. The museums sit on the canal but other than that there wasn't much to see. If they allowed some restaurants, shops, etc...to build along the canal it could be come a downtown hotspot.
