I am not a "person of faith." But I'm very interested in architecture and in structures whose design invites quiet contemplation. The Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette is stunning - an overused word, but appropriate here - and it's a welcoming place even for outsiders. The main auditorium/sanctuary is compellingly elegant and mesmerizingly quiet. I found myself just wanting... More

we live not far from this place and visit it quite often and always have a great time. it is incredibly quiet inside and the best place to meditate. And beautiful small gardens outside to walk and look at the beauty around.

This a a gorgeous facility with outstanding grounds. The lakefront across the street makes visiting the temple worth the trip.

If you like unusual architecture, houses of worship, etc., this is a must-see attraction in the Chicago area. One of only seven Baha'i Temples in the world, it's the only one in North America. It's relatively easy to get to. It's a 10-minute walk from the end of the Purple Line. The building is very unique: a nine-sided temple with... More

The Baha'i House of Worship on Lake Michigan just north of Chicago is amazing place. I discovered it by accident on a trip to Chicago when I was 18 and have been trying to come at least once a year ever since. It's open to people of all faiths (and no faith) to think, meditate, pray, walk through the gardens... More

The only reason I did not give the temple a higher rating is that I felt that the landscaping could have been better and I felt that the place didn't make me feel included in any way with the beliefs they are supporting. They do little to share much with visitors even though they have a captive ( almost) audience.

Even if you don't believe in God, you just might after standing the the middle of this fabulous structure and looking up at the heavens through the "lacy" dome. It is fun to read the inscriptions that run around the inside of the dome and the gardens are gorgeous in the summer.

I pass it a few times a month, and it is a thrill just to drive by it, but a tour is definitely worth the time and going out of your way. One of the top three attractions on the North Shore.
