What a fantastic community amenity. This trail is unbelievably well used by commuters, tourists, dog walkers and strollers. "Rush hour" can be a little unnerving, as the cyclists often forget with the twists and turns that road speeds are not appropriate. That's my only knock on the trail, but the "mamils" are wild all over victoria. (Middle aged men in... More

We cycled 15 km west, to Royal Roads University campus & back on this trail. Coming back was mostly downhill, or so it seemed. It took about 3 1/2 hours.

nice variation of bridges, trail, stream, ocean, beaches, forest, and town... perfect way to escape the city streets and exhaust, while still getting where you're going or to spend a tranquil day strolling, or for exercise, biking or jogging

Extensive, mostly paved walking/cycling trails throughout and around Victoria. The trail does cross some busy roads in places, so ensure you have checked and double checked before crossing the road. Most are clearly marked and most often traffic does stop. A great example of a a shared use trail.

The Galloping Goose is an old railway track that has been converted. It runs from Victoria all the way out to Sooke - but I like the portion through the rural community of Metchosin best. Great for biking and running - but the walking and talking with a pal is definitely the best - particularly in dappled sunlight during the... More

Look up the CRD website for the trail. Buy a cycle map. Bring the kids. Wheelchair friendly. You will pass farms, vies of lakes and the sea. Bed and Breakfasts on route. Great for training or just a day out.

Borrowed a bike from my hosts and spent a day exploring the Galloping Goose. Very cool down by the harbour, place called Selkirk - check out a great bakery and watch the rowers. Or, head all the way to Royal Roads University out of town, another heritage property. Unfortunately not right by Oaklands 8 but close enough recommend a stop... More

I use this trail daily - walking/running or biking. It's great for getting anywhere quick without worrying about traffic too much. Other trail users are generally very friendly and courteous. Most of the time it's fairly empty, but there's enough traffic until 6 or 7 at night that I feel safe using it even on the dark evenings in the... More
