Great little museum with good lunch. Lots of history here. We were a little before the season for the boat ride. Hope we can get back there sometime.

We've been to Starved Rock many times over the years (who hasn't who has lived or grew up in Illinois?) but I never knew about the Canal Boat in LaSalle.
We happened to take our towns Park District day bus trip to Starved Rock and this boat trip was included as part of the package.

You will find a lot of very unique items in the gift store. Reasonably priced. Excellent selection of sandwiches for lunch. Nothing fancy but a nicesize sandwich and cup of tea for a very reasonable price

This is a mule-drawn canal boat that takes you up and down the canal as the tour guide talks about how it was "back in the day" of river travel and canal travel in the mid-1800s. A relaxing quiet ride even tho when we took it, it was chilly out.

While we were visiting the Starved Rock area in Illinois we had the opportunity to take a ride on a replica narrow boat as used in the 19th century to to transport goods through the canal pulled by a mule. The canal boat was interpreted by "Mary Todd Lincoln" who did a wonderful job of telling the passengers how the boats operated in 1848. The boat is pulled by a mule and you can get "up close and personal"" with Mo or Larry before the trip -- the animals are well cared for and kept company by Curley the goat....

2 adults and 4 teens. All of us said it was very nice. The mule was ill the day we went. That was a let down. The stories were very good. We saw good amount of wildlife. Little expensive for what it is but I am glad we did it once.
