The Usambara Mountains are a 6-8 hour drive from Dar es Salaam. Cool and peaceful and very beautiful they are well worth the visit. There are a number of towns to stay in and around, with most options centered around Lushoto. Very importantly the paved road ends fairly soon after Lushoto, so check your accommodation before booking, especially if you... More

Not a trip you should bother doing if you are short on time. if you live in Arusha then this is a nice weekend getaway - albeit a bit of a drive. The bus ride up is a little windy and with their break neck speed of travelling - often frightening. There are loads of lovely walking trails and view... More

Not al all like the rest of Tanzania, the valleys reminded us of Nepal. A smashing place, if you can drive up to Mambo Viewpoint, do a couple of guided walks and enjoy this little corner of Africa.

Three of us spent four days in the Usambara Mountains and wished we could have stayed longer. We spent two days walking with a fantastic guide called Goodluck from a community group called COCAFA who are based in Lushoto. Goodluck helped to make sure our time in Usambara was memorable. We talked and laughed as we walked through small villages,... More

The Usambara's are a little difficult to get to, but well worth the trip! The views are incredible, as is the fauna! Lots of chameleons too!!! =o) Go with Friends of Usambara and you're guaranteed a great, young guide who's super friendly and knowledgable.

Our family of 5 (incl. 3 adult children) did a two-day walk arranged by the Friends of the Usambaras in the hills surrounding Lushoto, through small villages, farm fields and forests, interacting with locals along the way. Fascinating experience, and a delight to meet people (mostly excited children). Our guides, Said and Victoria, were excellent -- personable, knowledgeable and earnest... More

We took a customize day hike with Constantin from Tupande Usambara Cultural Tours in Lushoto village and had a great experience. Constantin adjusted our hike exatly to our needs, made a wonderful fresh lunch at an amazing viewpoint and arranged transport when we were running behind schedule. Lushoto was a highlight during our trip to Tanzania, due to the laid... More

Although our stay lies already few months back, our memories of this unique place are still fresh. MamboViewPoint is so much more than a fascinating eco-lodge, it’s a vision of sustainable and responsible tourism that has become reality through the passion and dedication of two outstanding personalities: Herman & Marion! Neither the breathtaking views (we were lucky to see Kili... More

It s the first time I write a comment on trip advisor even though I traveled a lot and tripadvisor is always very helpful! I wanted to write about the great experience we had going on a hike through the amazing Usumbara mountain with Said Selim. He answered every single question I asked by email before arriving. Once there, he... More
