I had never heard of this place but someone suggested we see it since we were going by the Andersonville Prison Nat Park which is about 50 miles east of this place. If you are coming down 431 in AL, it is only about a 20 mile drive to Providence Canyon. The walk down into the canyon was pretty easy... More

Short, easy trails to hike or longer, more challenging trails. Lots of beautiful photo opportunities. More

Don't let the park info fool you about the difficulty of walking down into the canyon. It's a fairly steep walk of switchbacks, but it's only 10 minutes down. And from there, walking into the canyons themselves is very easy. Give yourself a couple of hours to enjoy Providence Canyon. We had about 90 minutes, and we saw about half... More

Providence Canyon is not Bryce Canyon or the Grand Canyon, but it is worth visiting if you are in the area or passing through. If you are a hiker, I understand that the views from the trail are exquisite. We drove around the upper rim and stopped at all of the pull-outs. The colors and contours of the eroded sands... More

I liked the history involving some relatives of mine. It seems an arm of the Gulf of Mexico extended way up in the heart of Georgia. There was about a foot of top soil covered with vegetation. When the land was cleared and plowed and the rains came, it washed the farmsteads into the Gulf of Mexico leaving a 200... More

Providence Canyon is a beautiful and strange landscape that looks more like the Old West than the deep South, and apparently it was formed by erosion from poor farming practices. The result is a series of gorges spreading out like fingers, with fascinating colors and patterns revealed in the layers of sandstone. This is a relatively easy hike from the... More

We visited this canyon whilst on a road trip and weren't disappointed. There is a small fee to get inside and a number of areas to park your car along with a playground for children and a small visitors centre although this wasn't open when we went. We parked on the furthest car park and walked down the dirt track... More

Took the shorter (3 mile) hike and plan to go back and do the 7 mile hike one day. Very interesting canyons created by poor farming practices in the 1800's. They have closed the office at Providence, so you need to go to Florence Marina State Park, about 10 miles away, to the Nature Center there for information about the... More

For years I've wanted to come here and can't believe it took me so long. This was unreal. I've been to spectacular places out West and this floored me for being right here in Georgia, how different it was yet similar to other canyons. It was a happy day. Great hike, where you're tired AND energized afterward. Love it! More

My family detoured to see the Providence Canyon on our way home from Pine Mountain and we were not disappointed. We went for a hike on the canyon floor and then checked out the view from above on our way out of the park. Bring plenty of water and a camera, both are definitely needed. Bring $5 to pay for...
