We have spent two days in the wildlife refuge in the past year and truly enjoyed both. There is a minor per vehicle admission fee to some areas of the refuge but it is next to nothing for a very enjoyable day. There is a small visitor centre that you can stop at while headed into the park to learn... More

It was a hot long drive and not much to see except for a couple gators and birds. More

In January and February you can usually see the nesting and migratory birds. If you are a novice as I am, hook up with an Audubon group. They are knowledgable about the birds and so willing to share their expertise. More

I am not sure what the problem was but there was not that much activity during our trip through here. We went through a few different times at different times of the day but about we saw was ibis and a couple of alligators. The Manatee viewing area was closed for maintenance when we got to it on Sunday but... More

We spent two wonderful days driving and hiking around the National Wildlife Refuge and National Seashore. We had the chance to see water fowl of many types: egret, stilts, osprey, red wing blackbirds, spoonbills. We had an up close viewing of an osprey fishing. Also saw bald eagle. Wading water birds are everywhere! We also saw manatee and dolphins in... More

February is migration season at Merritt Island and the surrounding areas. It is a birder's paradise. We were able to add several life birds to our repertoire being intermediate birders. the birds are in abundance, so if you miss one, there are others to see. Large flocks are evident, but keep your bird guide handy. Entry fee is reasonable and... More

Back in February, I overheard nature photographers brag about their weekend at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, where they saw a few bald eagles, several roseate spoonbills, and many other birds. I saved my trip for when I was visiting my friend who has a vacation home not too far away from there in Palm Bay, Florida. I finally... More

I went to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge 3 times this year. I love it! The first time I went by myself, the second time with my 32 year old son, and the third time with my sister, who can only walk short distances. I was impressed by how much you can see from the car on the Black Point... More

There is a visitor's center just as you enter. Take the Wildlife Drive (about 30 minutes), it's well worth it. Best to go earlier in the morning or at sunset when the birds are most active. More
