Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is home to birds that would otherwise. be left to die. It is touching to see the care given to these needy creatures in a natural feeling habitat. Admission is free, donations appreciated. all for a worthy cause. Located on Gulf Blvd. just off the beach, it is part of what makes Indian Shores a wonderful town.
Our hotel had information on the sanctuary. It's a little hard to see as you're driving down Gulf Blvd but worth going. Warning: it's a bit smelly as birds do eat fish. This is free but please give a generous donation. Heard the sanctury is in financial trouble (heard from some of the locals). This sanctuary does great work in... More
Free things to do! This place takes in injured birds or cannot be returned to the wild. They function by donations.
I saw birds that were so beautiful that I was amazed. The sanctuary was a special place to be. Alone with nature in their own special habitat.

These folks are so happy to share any info and answer any questions you may have. We love coming here and watching all of the wild birds, all with different injuries and issues. The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is a great place to bring the family or friends and get a close up look of the various species of birds that frequent our area. They do wonderful work in the area and are always ready to save the wildlife in distress. If you like the goofy pelicans, then you'll have your fill.

Throughout the sanctuary they have benches where you can sit in the shade. Be careful where you sit though as you could find bird droppings on them. We enjoyed sitting and just listening... More
Situated right on the beach its worth and wander in to if only get away from the midday sun! Its not spectacular, but this isn't a zoo, its a bird sanctuary which does an important job for wildlife.
We visit the bird sanctuary every year that we are in Florida. In previous years they had nesting pelicans but they couldn't afford to do that this year. I know there were some financial issues. But I have personally caught and rescued pelicans by our dock with several fishing hooks embedded in them. I brought them to the sanctuary and... More
