The museum stays next to the Florida Museum of Natural History and its not a big think I think, maybe it is for the people who are really interested about art escructures.
The building itself is beautiful. They have a fantastic Asian section with all kinds of art, including statues, bowls, etc.. There is a decent Monet you can pick out from a mile away surrounded by some other pleasant 19th-early 20th century works. There's an interesting African section which is also a lesson in history and culture. It has pieces from... More
New must-sees include the incredible paintings, pottery, and sculpture in the new Asian wing. Be prepared to be awed.
Definitely a worth-while art museum, especially with the newly-added Asian art wing. It's an extremely nice museum is art ranging from all time periods, so you're bound to find something you like. The staff and curators are also incredibly nice and knowledgeable, so be sure to ask if you have any questions! Oh, did I mention that it's completely free?... More
I was saving the day to attend this museum but I was unaware that it was free, what a surprised! The collection is broad and amazing. Plan on being there for at least 2 hours to appreciate all the works. It's kid friendly and its pretty large. Awsome staff and ambiance.
the Harn is a large museum, with a focus on some limited areas of art - excellent Asian wing, but the rest is mostly Modern, which is great if that is your thing. Outstanding demonstration of the relationship between Art and Geology (and other sciences) every Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5, near the front door. This "Discovery Table" is... More

Clearly, this museum is not worth a detour, but it's a must if visiting Gainesville. Interesting collection, including 1 Monet (not the best however), some PreColumbian, African art, and a huge collection of far-east pottery. Overall, a nice museum. 1hr visit is enough. Free admission.
