I suggest going in the morning as it heats up during the day (and the crowd grows). I love taking my out-of-town friends there. It was stunning, though, to see a school boy think a living insect needed capturing and smashing. Is it the kid's fault for having a need to conquer a harmless being - or the watching parent's,... Lots of butterflies, beautifully done rainforest. Great explanations. Showing every stage of life cycle. You can view the lab technicians while they research butterflies. Cool collections of other creatures as well (i.e. spiders, beetles, roaches, etc.)

We loved just sitting in the Rainforest and seeing all of the butterflies, birds, and tropical plants. The staff was helpful and quick to answer any questions. We saw some amazing butterflies and had a nice afternoon.

Visited the Harn Museum and the Butterfly rainforest, both beautiful and well worth a visit. Warm and humid in the Rainforest, so probably early morning would be the best time to visit.

If you have AAA you only pay $5.00 to see the butterflies. It is well worth it and I have been there at least 3 times already; also the museums there are also great and enjoyable plus there is a place to eat at the other museum which is really good.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit in the butterfly rainforest. The shear number and beauty of the creatures is amazing as they flutter all around you. Great educational material too. Should have left more time for the natural history museum because that was terrific too.

The University of Florida was fortunate to be funded for the study of various species of butterflies. They developed an academic program, but even better, they shared it with the public. The enclosed garden of beautifully landscaped plants, streams, and waterfalls contains free flying butterflies of many species with hundreds of colors and shapes. A stroll through the garden will... I have visited many butterfly gardens all over and this one is the best by far. It is in the natural history museum so plan on several hours if you want to see everything. We spent 3 hours in the garden alone. This is a must see if you are in the Gainesville,Florida area.
