The road up is a good gravel-surface road, fine for high-clearance vehicles but probably a bit rough for cheapo rental cars. More

We drove our chrysler sebring almost all the way. We did have to turn around at the rock overhang due to ruts that we weren't willing to attempt with the low clearance car. We definitely recommend this scenic drive. Lots of mountain vistas, trees, snow, waterfalls, and photo opportunities. We spent about 1 1/2 hours on this drive due to... More

This is a wonderful jeep road with great views and a spectacular over hang that is great for photos. The very upper section is a little tough. Good rock hounding and super trails. More

I go up to Yankee Boy Basin as many times as possible every year. I take millions of pictures! It is a wonderful place to just sit and be in awe and take a picnic or just soak in the waterfalls. You can't get enough! More

The San Juan Mountains don't get any better than this. If you have a day, and you want to really see the mountains, this is the trip. Unrelated to going to Yankee Boy, but nearby... Do NOT attempt to navigate Black Bear Pass going into Telluride unless you are truly an EXPERT 4 x 4 driver! Go with a guide... More

Best place to see lots of wildflowers in the summer. Can be crowded but worth it. More

Also a great place to go ATVing. Enter just behind the Ice Park in Ouray, next to the Box Canyon. Just follow the road back to Yankee Boy Basin. The other side of the mountain in Telluride. Dangerous to cross over the top of the peak, but what an adventure. WOW! More

We rented a jeep for the day and chose to explore Yankee Boy Basin. Words can not describe the immense beauty of this place. The entire drive up was breathtaking. It was by far the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life. I wanted to do it again the next day! The waterfalls, wildflowers, wildlife, fresh air...........amazing!... More
