I took some visitors to the top of Pikes Peak between Christmas and New Year. Yes, it's even open in the winter time. It closes occasionally, of course, because of bad weather up there, but if it's clear, it's open. And oh, the winter views are spectacular. Do try the donuts. They're special.

On this date we could not get to the peak, May 12, there had been three feet of snow the day before so should call ahead to see if the road is open. However it was a very senic drive to the tree line, however slow and winding. Plan on at least three to four hours from gate back.

It;s a long drive and a strain on your brakes coming back down, but it is well worth it. I understand they have renovated some of the buildings up top and they could use it. I would recommend this to all visitors, just be aware of the altitude if you have breathing problems and the cold that is much colder... More

Unfortunately there had been a blizzard the night before so we were only able to drive up to 11,000 feet. The view of the mountain was spectacular though.

If you want to go to pikes peak - ask the cashier, if the complete (!) way to the peak is open. Because it is possible, that the road one ore two miles near the target is closed based on ice and snow. So, whe had to return, could not climb the complete mountain by car. Without this trouble: The... More

The pikes Peak highway is a beautiful drive through nature. It is paved all the way to the top and very safe for non-mountain experienced drivers. There are drop-offs on parts of the drive which scares some, but it really is not that bad! The view from the top is beautiful and you should have a special donut and hot... More

Good drive ...pretty steep with several switch backs ...and no guard rails...a bit pricy at 10$ a head...but beautiful...we could only go to around 12000 feet due to snow and ice ...the gift shop was pretty sparse and the cafe was closed and didn't even have coffee when it was 24 degrees outside...that being said its a must do for... The views are spectacular on a clear day with a few high clouds. The drive is fun if not a bit scary on the switch backs, but take your time and it is enjoyable. There are a few places to stop along the way and I would take advantage of them. Highly recommend driving down slowly and enjoying the sights.... More

The switch backs are crazy. Awesome views. A must do when in the area. If you're in a rental car, you'll want a V6!

This is a bucket list drive. Absolutely spectacular. They were removing the barriers for the Pike's Peak Rally when we climbed the hill. It's 14,200 ft so don't do too much running around at the top or you'll get dizzy. I swear you can see Ohio from the top...absolutely breathtaking...do it!
