This museum located in the middle of a neighborhood park is celebrating it's 80th anniversary and is excellent for local history. The permanent exhibits traces the inhabitants from local Indian tribes, the Spanish influence through the gold rush and industrial eras that includes Stockton as a major shipping port a boat building center (Stephens Crafts) and home to the Holt... This venerable Stockton fixture has had the facilities constantly upgraded, though it could use a cafe. The permanent exhibits feature some very well known paintings, including several Bierstadt paintings of Yosemite, and an extensive collection of JC Leyendecker illustrations. There are frequent temporary exhibits which are always interesting. The historical sections of the museum are very well done, instructive and... More

The museum at times have interesting exhibits however, it is in a terrible, unsafe area in Stockton. Would not go there alone or without at least one adult male in group. More

Whenever I'm in Stockton, California, I try to make time to visit The Haggin Museum. The recent Leyendecker exhibit, the Holt hall and other one-of-a-kind attractions set The Haggin apart, not only as a treasure trove of local history but also an entertaining venue that continues to improve and reinvent itself year after year.
