Well, perhaps it has to do with the idea of all that gum coming out of strangers' mouths and being plastered onto a cement wall that is part of such a narrow alley one can hardly walk through it without touching the walls! EEYYUUU!!

We made a special point of seeing this, after reading all the hype. Found it, paid to park, etc. What a let-down. Just looks like any wall in any inner city alley. GROSS.... just a stinky, filthy mess. It should me cleaned off and done away with.
We parked in the lot on garden alley and broad street and we just happened to walk by the bubblegum alley on our way to check out the many shops (and Farmer's Market on thursdays) on Higuera street RIGHT next to it! It was a perfect surprise!
It's a little gross but it was still kind of cool! I would...

This wall was there even when I attended Cal Poly thirty years ago! Talk about ABC gum!! It's interesting...but in my mind also a bit disgusting. Nonetheless, it is a novelty you might want to go see!
My guidebook mentioned this wall so we made the effort to see it. It is actually two walls in a narrow alley. I would call it a curiosity as there are all sorts of things stuck to the walls with the chewed gum (some that would have belonged more in the trash can!) but I wouldn't make a special detour...

I am embarrassed to have this in SLO, especially when I see tourists photographing it! I want to tell them, "Look at the mountains! Look at the creek! Look at the Mission! "
Started out years ago with students getting rid of chewing gum and it has grown to what it is today; a novelty place known all over the world. Go see it for yourself.
Nothing special about an alley cluttered with chewed gum pressed against the walls. It is convenietly located in beautiful downtown San Luis Obispo but enter at your own risk.
Wow, this was the most gross and disgusting tourist attraction ever. But, yes, I walked through and took a picture anyway. I guess the history is interesting, but this was five minutes of my life that I won't get back!!! The rest of the town is cute and enjoyable. If you do go to see this, do it quickly and...

Lived here for over 20 years and there are so many sights to see in town. This may have been a nifty catchy touristy thing to get people to stop decades ago but the town has grown into a much more artsy community. If you must, park your car in the lot and take the 3 second walk between the...
