You ride a boat across beautiful Lake Shasta ; you ride a bus up a winding mountain road to the cavern door; you hike 800 steep steps through the cavern. Then you have to walk back down outside on the mountain trail! It is fun but seniors should be aware of the physical effort of climbing the stairs throughout the...

I have seen plenty of caverns before and this one is lovely, though small in comparison. There are about 5 rooms the guide will walk you through, with a detailed description of the types of formations. This is really cool place. HUGE cave, great tour guides. They also have a Dinner cruise that leaves from the same place. A great day adventure to go see the gives and then tour the lake while having dinner.

This tour starts out with a short ride by pontoon boat to the island, then a bus ride up the side of the "mountain" to the cave enterance. From there a tour guide walks you thru the beauty of the cave. Great place to escape the heat of the day.

The bus ride to reach the entrance was not my cup of tea; the tour once we finally got there wasn't enough of a payoff.
