You're right up on a cliff, just a few feet from the hang gliders and para-gliders landing and taking off. Those already airborne cruise up and down the coast right about eye level. Lots of fun!

The air currents flowing up the cliff create a lift that helps the paragliders take off effortlessly. We watched several just stand and kind of push off the ground and get lifted into the air. We are definitely going back to take a flight and join the fun. We just happened to be driving close by and thought we would...

You can see for miles from the vantage points, watching the surfers who are tiny dots on the water's surface. This is one of my top five places to watch the sunset. Be mindful of slippery rocks, winds, and the marine layer that makes this a chilly place earlier than the rest of San Diego. We saw many couples enjoying...

Our kids - ages 10, 7 and 4 thoroughly enjoyed tandem paragliding with their instructors. We thought our kids would be terrified but the instructors took time to help them enjoy the pre-glide prep and when it was time to take off - smooth sailing! Our 4 year old girl's instructor - Max - was very patient and re-assuring. She...

I use to watch surfer dudes scamper down the cliffs to the beach below. I've climbed up and down those stairs may times. My thighs get tight just thinking about the climb.
If your are near La Jolla, Del Mar or Torrey Pines State Beach, you have to go see the hang gliders launch themselves off the cliffs. Parking and viewing is free. There is a small grill on site. And uniquely southern California ocean view too.
Go get a sandwich @ Subway with a drink and drive down to the launch area and take it in. Most people don't know much about hang gliding, but the people there will help you with the trials and dangers along with the glory of the experience.
Amazing views and fun to watch the gliders! This would be a nice spot to bring along a lunch and watch the daredevils - also has a snack bar there if you want to grab a bite instead.
Parking lot was packed, dirt road access, but sights were great,It's also free, very windy in this area to watch gliders
Climb down the 250 steps to the beach while looking both up and out. Quiet and primitive. Hint: save your knees and walk a mile south to the life guard outpost and there is a paved road back to the top.
