San Joaquin offers birders a great opportunity to walk and bird. There are an abundance of water fowl and more habitats than you would suspect. The trail maps could be improved; but, it would be hard to get lost. I would not take small children. They do post signs of occasional mountain lions.

This is a quiet, hidden little walking sanctuary not far from John Wayne Airport. The San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary is located near the UCI campus and provides a nice break to walk through and view various waterfowl and animals. You can take guided tours on specific dates/times but it is easily walkable in less than an hour.

This is an oasis of nature in a big city but there really wasn't much wildlife to be seen. There is some major construction going on nearby and the noise overwhelms what should be a pleasant walk.
