Learned about Steam Engines & loggers on this tour. One can ride in the open on log seats or covered with probably more comfortable seating. I like the log seats. The Sugar Pine railroad offers the nostalgic joy of riding behind a Shay steam locomotive with all its huffing and puffing. "Miner Mike" was extremely good with children young and old and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. $10 pp but great entertainment and educational--we did not ride the train but did enjoy the old time store and panning for gold. More

This old locomotive ride will appeal to rail road buffs and kids of all ages...however since it belches out large bilious clouds of black smoke that fills the beautiful countryside with nasty stuff, it is better to avoid this one and seek more environmentally friendly alternative experiences. More
