But it is worth it! I believe they working on legal way for you to get to the falls so that you don't have to go along tracks. Very pretty! Hedge creek, which is near here is also a great place to visit.

Mossbrae falls is just as it is named; much water pouring over a wide Mossy ledge about 30' high and splashing down into the cold Upper Sacramento River. The walk is on railroad property; very close to the tracks. Trains are "scary" when that close. On real hot days the pools at the base can be waded in; however, the...

Last time I went there you had to hike right along rail road tracks!

There is no direct acess to this place. If you are planning to visit this place with kids it is not recommended until the project to acess these falls from Hedge Creek falls is completed. May be it is worth but it is risky in terms of parking and rail track.

Mossbrea Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen.
Easy wlking distance, 20 minutes up the rail road tracks brings you to this beautiful site.
The water comes from springs on the hillside and drops 40 feet right into the upper Sacramento river. The hillside is covered with moss, which makes this place very special for waterfall...

One of the reasons we came here. I don't understand why they advertise this place in their tour books of 101 places to see in Shasta...The parking is blocked, there are No Trespassing signs everywhere in that area. The sign says No Access To Mossbrae Falls. So since people are not welcomed here, so why advertise it? I have contacted...

This is a beautiful little falls, kind of a shock at first. All true about it being "closed" so park up on Dunsmuir. They are working on a trail from Hedge Creek Falls for next year. Meanwhile, just fyi, the trail is off to the right just before the RR bridge. Someone has spraypainted a rock, so you can't miss...

There is a real problem with parking this year. The parking area by the railroad tracks is closed.
To walk to the falls you need to park on Dunsmuir ave and then walk into Shasta Retreat. People are getting tickets and some of the locals are getting upset because people are parking on private property.
It is an amazing walk,...

I was initially inspired to go to Mossbrae Falls because of a photograph I saw in a gallery Picture of Waterfall and to my amazement the waterfall was even more beautiful in person. The mist falls off of the cliff and sprays your face cooling you down as you sit in peace. All I want is to have that...

The falls are about a one-mile hike down the railroad right of way. You have to keep an ear out for the trains (which use the horn a lot, so you can hear them coming). The tracks follow the curves of the upper Sacramento River, which flows about a hundred feet below, through trees and hillsides Just before a railroad...
