What a great experience!
In short, I never thought moving from the hot (sauna/steam room) to the cold (pools the temperature of a river and/or the pacific ocean) would have been such a fun experience for my boyfriend and I. (We also topped it off with individual massages)
We went into Refuge, not really knowing what to expect. After three...

I went to this Spa during my 8 night stay in Carmel. It was very relaxing and peaceful. I also paid extra for a massage. They wanted to charge me $12.00 for use of a Robe and I think when Paying $100.00 for a massage/refuge they should throw the robe in for free. Just a suggestion to management.

Great sauna, steam room and pools. Let's hope it does not get too crowded and commercialized as it becomes more popular.

We came across this place by accident through a tourist leaflet
- Great value. We paid 99 USD for an hours massage and four hours in the thermal pools
- Half a dozen different heat pools
- Steam and sauna rooms
- Very basic but very tranquil
- Make sure you take a robe !
- Would return

Not quite the same, as Refuge is designed to enable the ultimate relaxation experience. It's quiet and peaceful with the sound of the flowing water everywhere. We spent an hour doing the recommended "heat...

I am not a sauna or spa person. A friend of mine talked me into trying Refuge out on my recent trip to Monterey. I am so glad he did. I have never experienced everything like Refuge before - and I felt so good afterwards, I went back for a second visit before heading back home.
The staff was exceedingly...

Husband and I had an afternoon to burn (between checking out of our B&B and catching a red eye flight home) and figured this would be as good a way as any to pass a few hours. Boy - was that possibly the BEST decision we made our entire trip!
Favorite part of the afternoon was probably the eucalyptus steam...
