Walked here from Emeryville and it was a pleasant surprise to see the little shops along this street. They all seemed nice and welcoming and I enjoyed an afternoon of looking around and browsing what was on offer. I really liked the feel of the street and would recommend a visit to this little shopping area, if you are nearby.... More

Well, I never thought I would return to my old stomping grounds, Berkeley. Here I am after 38 years (when I worked for the Oakland Tribune) wandering up and down 4th street. Delighted to find it has been completely renovated into an upscale shopping neighborhood. We started with lunch at “Zut” where you can have Mediterranean food, fun food and... More

I love Bryn Walker's avant guard clothes, her architectural shapes. There are top quality garden shops, paper, cards, Betty's Pie Shop and other restaurants, Rabbat shoes-yummy and expensive--very Berkeley shoes (combination combat boot and hi style).

Fourth Street is a very fun place to visit. Berkeley's best breakfast diner just might be Bette's Ocean View Diner; the Crate and Barrel outlet is great; Sur la tab is there, Cafe Rouge is terrific. The street is polka-dotted with very expensive stores (Whoa! See The Garden!) and other unusual stores. It is diverse and colorful. Lovely at Christmas.

Fourth street has it all - restaurants, cute unique shops, coffee, cafes, home wares, a book store. Great area of Berkeley to linger. Look behind the shops for parking.

I am not usually a shopper, but this street is really charming and has great stores and restaurants-perfect for an afternoon stroll!

I loved Fourth Street before the "improvements" back when it was just another part of ghetto that is Berkeley. It is not without it's charms and is a great place to walk around but to my way of thinking one can only deal with just so many Pottery Barns and Starbucks.

You can have an amazing breakfast in the local restaurant. There is often a line as all of the local families and neighbors rub elbows in this gem of a spot. Clothing stores, a children's toy store, and an amazing decorating and hardware store are among the highlights.
