This complex is extremely large and beautiful! Make sure you bring water with you. We were lucky enough to go during a festival. There were local people selling local items and food. It is a wonderful place to walk around and take pictures!

The Vithala Temple Complex is the most remarkable site in Hampi which shows an amazing stone chariot among other things. And we were most impressed by the beautiful architecture of the dancing hall. The walk along the Tunga-Bhadra river to the temple complex from the Hampi bazar takes about 20min and it is worth it. On the way we could...

This is a remarkable temple of hampi, the then capital of Vijayanagar kingdom. This was built for vijaya temple. But before the temple was concecrated the vijayanagar dynasty came to an end. It has beautiful stone pillars which produce the saptha swaras.
It has close to it the marvelous stone chariot. This temple is on the bank of tungabadra river...

An architecture lover's dream. You can spend hours here. Again, do use a knowledgeable guide as there is so much to take in. It's a real shame that you cannot enter the musical pillar hall any longer due to vandalism!
The stone chariot was remarkable but what moved me more was the story of the musical stone pillars. APparently these pillars were designed to replicate a number of different musical instruements; They would be played by striking with sandalwood sticks and apparently the music could be heard up to a kilometer away.
The main temple featuring these pillars is being...

It is recommended that you take the visitor buggy for a small charge to this vast complex. The walk can seem quite a distance in the blistering heat and the buggy is fairly cheap.
You will be impressed, perhaps overwhelmed, by the extensive architecture which emphasises what was a grand expression of spirituality and faith. In fact, there is so...

Take a scenic from the bazaar along the river. It is easy to find your way down to vithala, can pick up a map at any old shop too if you like. If you have one, it's best to walk or lock up your bike as it turns into a track. You will see lots of ruins along the way...

The Vithala Temple Complex is the most beautiful temple complex in Hampi. We had gone there quite early in the morning and had the entire complex to ourselves, which added an unearthly ambiance to the whole place. The carvings are beautiful, some are really quite interesting and unique.
What is very nice is that you can take your time and visit the complex and all the other historical monuments around by bicycle or by motorbike or even walking 9 even if it is a little bit too hot for walking long distances!) in a big beautiful area with strange stone forms of volcanic origin.
Having visited Hampi 8 years ago it was time to revisit this wonderful place. It was great last time and this time it was just as good namely because we had the same guide, Prakash. He remembered us. His tales and knowledge is second to none and he makes Hampi come alive and you think you are there.
Such a...
