I would recommend a morning trip with a respected tour guide/company. They can give you valuable information concerning how to deal with vendors, horse/camel rides, etc. Being experienced, they can also tell you how to best care for yourself in this desert climate. Have a few dinars or dollars available, and only purchase from those the guide recommends...and how he... More

My biggest advice would be to stay a night in Wadi Moussa and get to Petra first thing in the morning. There are no crowds, no tours yet, the temperature is cool and it is a wonderful experience. We did it without a guide and loved it! More

We visited Petra in April and it is a beautiful and truly a seven wonders of the world. I would recommend if you are of Arab origin then take some Identification with you as you pay 1 Dinar and if you are not then you pay 50 Dinar, quite a bit of difference, especially if you have a big family!!!... I find Petra to be a highly overrated attraction. Whilst the ruins themselves are quite impressive the experience is made less enjoyable by the large number of tourists.
