We were staying at the Aureum Palace (which now I feel guilty about given the ownership) so got a free ticket to go up the tower. It is a bit of a monstrosity and the temples of Bagan are just as magnificent seen from the ground. Give it a pass. More

This is a fine example of idiocracy. Officially known as the Nann Myint Viewing Tower, was completed in 2005, built for & priced for tourists. This eye-sore is just one of the terrible fates that await the once unspoilt landscape of Bagan. It can be seen on the horizon from a fair distance & is a vehicle of the military... More

This tower is near the Auream Palace hotel a bit outside the city center, but it is reachable with car or bicycle. The views are amazing and show you a clear horizon where all the 2000 Temples and Pagodas of the 11th to 13th century are stretched over the city. The entance fee was 10 USD, there are 13 floors... This Tower is actually a restaurant. It looks like state-run, is hellish expensive and totally deserted. fried shrimp for example cost 17.000 kyat (800 kyat = 1 usd), a glass of apple juice without ice (the cheapest choice) out of the box 3.000 kyat. after this drink we decided to leave without food, so they wanted to charge us 10... Not the best looking tower but it provide a terrace for excellent views of Bagan. This is the best way to have a bird eye view of Bagan as the hot air ballons are just too costly at US 300 per person. More

This tower stands out on the skyline from quite a distance as an architectural anachronism and a bit of an eyesore. But it's probably better than the crowds that currently crawl over and perch on the real ancient Bagan structures at dusk, which is quite a shock and a concern. Hundreds of tourist bodies sprawled all over ancient pagodas, with... More
