Easily reached from San Carlos de Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes in the Lake District, Huechahue is a perfect addition to your Patagonian itinerary. Come to horseback ride, fly fish, take cooking classes, golf, or just to relax at a traditional Estancia. As a working cattle ranch, Huechahue is a wonderful place to experience traditional estancia life. About 900 head of Hereford cattle and 80 horses are spread over 15,000 acres. Traditional Argentine cowboys, or gaucho’s, roam the ranch, tending to the animals and joining guests on rides and cattle drives. The farm itself is virtually self-sufficient. Water is drawn from an aquifer and electricity from a turbine. Much of the food served at Huechahue comes from the surrounding land. We offer a B&B option of hotel room with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner are optional and paid for separately. We would be happy to help you plan your activities while you are here. Other guests like an all-inclusive package which includes activities like horseback riding or fly fishing. Guests can be assured of excellent services and a warm welcome. The atmosphere at Huechahue is relaxing and genial. Eight guest cabins are spread out through the orchard, a short stroll from the main lodge. Guests gather in the dining room for meals, or the large "quincho" for asados and grill outs over an open fire. We hope to see you soon! « less

We stayed for a couple of nights in April and were a bit disappointed. We were told (in advance) that our stay coincided with a public holiday in Argentina, and so we would not have the opportunity to ride at the Estancia (as the staff would have the day off). A ride was eventually arranged, but it was near San... More

Thank you for your comments. We strive to be great, not just good, so we are disappointed that we didn't live up to your expectations. Addressing the horseback riding first, I did find the next closest place to ride (which yes was 45 minutes away - things are far and few between in this area) and we did give your... More

I booked the ten-day trans-Andes expedition, which was expensive but brilliantly organised and well worth the money. There were seven riders, plus four guide/wranglers and three guys with the back-up vehicle, so we were exceptionally well looked-after. We spent three nights under canvas in Argentina and two nights in lodges in Chile (this is sometimes under canvas too). There were... More

Stayed for a week in 2006 with my husband and enjoyed every minute. Jane tried very hard to fix us us up with horses that suited and didn't mind swapping if we didn't like them. The horses were all well looked after and extremely reliable over the difficult terrain, In some places it was like mounted rock climbing. Some of... More

My wife and I booked three nights at Estancia Huechahue in February at the last minute, although we had to wait two nights in San Martin before there was a vacancy at the estancia. We did not have time to take the ‘estancia to estancia’ ride or the ‘ride to Chile’ excursion. While the stay was very expensive, it was... More

Have just returned from a fabulous10 day trek from the Estancia to Chile. Brilliant horses, stunning scenery, superb food and wine, wonderful hospitality and, in our case, the most fantastic weather (some of the camp sites might be a problem if it was really wet, especially in Chile). Highly recommended to anyone who is reasonably comfortable on a horse and who... More

Great riding from the Estancia with fantastic views. A must for horse riders without the stuffiness you sometimes get in the horsey world. Relaxed with no standing on ceremony. Staying in the lodges mean a comfortable night after a days riding. You get well fed and watered. Pack ride is great too although you mostly sleep in tents. A couple... More

This horseback riding adventure is based at Estancia Huechahue (“way-cha-way”) in northern Patagonia, Argentina. The estancia is a 15,000 acre ranch owned by Jane Williams and co-managed by Yvonne Corbett. Lodging at the estancia consists of cottage with private sleeping quarters and shared living rooms, all meals taking place at the main ranch house. The pace and length of all... More

Estancia Huechahue is an exhilerating holiday for all riders, experienced or novices. It is a working estancia and therefore one is generally expected to help with the day to day running. Although there are plenty of other activities to do apart from horsy ones - walking, fishing or swimming. However, the odd cattle round-up is not unremarkable. What is remarkable... More
