this place is amazing - especially if you arrive during spawning season. Once you're inside, you need to really take time to examine the fish tanks - both the large and small. All the creatures are taken from local waters and you'll be surprised at the diversity. My favorite fish of all is the lumpsucker... see if you can find... More

Depending on the time of year you visit, you can watch the hatchery egg takes and other activities and see where the fish are reared and fed before being released back into the ocean to supplement the abundant wild runs of the region. There's a good little guided tour and a fun aquarium with local marine species on display. More

We were absolutely fascinated by the salmon harvesting process at the hatchery. Be sure and pay for the basic tour ($3.25 per adult and $1.75 for children 12 and under) as it made the whole experience worth the trip. Not sure if you'd get much out of it without their explanations of what is going on. From the outside decks... More

The visit was very interesting and allowed us to understand how the salmon population is enhanced and maintained. Saw a lot of salmon spawning up the hatchery fish ladder. More

My family (grandparents, parents, and sister) came here while docked in Juneau during our Alaskan cruise. The hatchery was a short drive away from the city centre, and we chose to come here after visiting Mendenhall Glacier. As we entered, we saw the entire fish ladder teeming with a variety of salmon. We went in July, which is during the... More

Very interesting and informative tour of a salmon hatchery. Aquarium with sea life and small gift shop. If you've got the time (about 30-60 minutes), you'll want to visit. More

We purchased the "extra" ticket to see the entire factory. It was a good, informative tour. It is encouraging to hear how they help the salmon survive. Good tour. More

Inexpensive attraction ($3.09 per) with an interest display of undersea life, and the life story of salmon. We went in early June and the fish ladders were still quiet, but when they are in action it would be more fun to visit. The money goes to a good cause also. More

A tour of this place is very interesting, but we didn't see any signs indicating how to get one. Eventually somebody told us that you're supposed to ask somebody in the tacky gift shop about getting a tour. Definitely worth your time, especially if you don't already know much about the salmon life cycle and the role a hatchery plays. More

Great opportunity to understand the idfference between farm raised and hatchery fish. And you will want to understand that difference before you go to Alaska. The tour is good, great aquarium of local sealife that they do not advertise, and they should. The giftshop, however, is truly the tourist rip off shop. Fortunately, we had been in town and understood... More
