Excellent visit. Get early bus to Alluejla. then get 9.15 public bus to Poas Volcan. Bus stops at small souvenir shop, with yummy volcano strawberries. Pay national park fee. Short, easy watch up hillside. Bus returns at 2.30. Perfect day out

Loved the views of the tarns, but wish we could have gotten closer. Still, for being the most visited stop in Costa Rica, it wasn't overcrowded at all!
This is a beautiful area to see, even if most days it is too foggy to see the volcano. We went on a sunny day and it was impressive. The attendant facility are well maintained and it is handicapped accessible. If you don't get to see it the first time try again, it it well worth it.
It is recommended to go early in the morning as the cloudy smoke and steam often obscure the view in the afternoon. We arrived at 9.00 and found we couldn't see anything. Luckily after a short walk, we returned and were able to enjoy the absolutely spectacular vistas.

The well developed trails make it a perfect family outing. The trails are mostly paved with natural rock and the trees...

My only recommendation is that you visit the park in the morning, especially if you go around the rainy season, as the cloud cover makes...
