This was a fun stop, but be wary. The "antique" you are buying might be a "newtique". So long as you are aware, it is a good place to get those souvenirs, or maybe find a real treasure. Haggle haggle haggle. Be prepared to walk away if needed.

Along several blocks and cross sections in central Shanghai is The Dong Tai Antique Market. If you are looking for inexpensive souvenirs to take home, this is the place. One must bargain, though, and bargain hard. Plenty of 1950-60's faux "Mao-morbilia" with added cracks and patina. Some places have legitimate antiques, but in reality, they put a lot of effort into fakes. Well worth a stroll on a sunny day; great photos to be had...
