Mobile is more of a family friendly carnival than New Orleans. I live in Mobile and have been going to the parades since I was a child...and whether you are a child or an adult you will have a wonderful time. "Hey Mister throw me a moonpie!"

I lived in Mobile for 28 years and I know all the in's and out's of Mardi Gras. It is a very interesting community event in the city, but make sure you plan ahead before you attend. Whether you are going to a day parade or a night parade, I recommend you park in one of the local parking areas...

I try to go every year. It's very family friendly and there are tons of parades to enjoy. Make sure to check out the Joe Cain parade! It's always a ton of fun!
I was nervous what we were going to see, but everyone was very nice and family oriented. The parade started and we had a blast! We never saw anything bad!!!!! We had a ton of fun and left with all kinds of beads, Moon Pies (Which I had never heard of! LOL) and my youngest even got a stuffed Teddy...

MUCH, MUCH less drama than in New Orleans. Easier to get in and out and did not see one thing that my children did not need to see. This was the second time I had been here. From now on, Mobile is where I will go for Mardi Gras. Another HUGE plus is that the cops on patrol are not...

Rating this isn't fair!!! how can you rate the biggest party next to NEW YEARS MOON PIE DROP!!! crows screamed for the anthem's pie's for two weeks!! MY ears just stopped ringing yesterday!!
had a fabulous time at my very first Mardi Gras, ten days worth of it! and have loads of beads, stuffed animals including a large Christmas Teddy Bear, toys, souvenir cups and coins, moon pies, and on and on to take home..
This is where it all started. Not New Orleans, much more family friendly and all the excitement of the holiday! yes, it's a holiday in mobile, we even let our children out of school for it!
Mardi Gras in Mobile - the original site for Mardi Gras is a great experience. There are lots of great places to watch the parade along the extensive route as well as catch it for a second and third round. The parades are well timed throughout the day.
Mobile is a very friendly city and I always feel safe there....

The nearly countless parades started before lunch and some days didn't end till well after dark, so bring BIG bags for all the beads and Moon Pies and more! The police and sheriffs were out in force -- never a problem with drunks, pick-pockets, etc. Not as wild as New Orleans but just as much fun and much safer.
