My fiance and I visited the canyon for our first anniversary in September 2010. I'm not sure why some of the other folks had such a bad experience, but we had a great time. We stayed in one of the larger cabins closest to the entrance/store. It was very clean, fully stocked with appliances, utensils, towels, board games, blankets, etc.... More

We used to go to the Dismals when I was a child growing up near here. Recently, my husband and I took my Mom for a daytrip. It is just such an amazing beautiful place, such pretty trails, caves, waterfalls, bridges. I downloaded the description of the features from their website and we looked for everything along with the guide... More

Best kept secret in Alabama. I think best time to see would be May through Sep - Lots of shade, cool spring near entrance. Closest place to get hotel would be Florence. They have a campground. More

I have no idea what previous reviewer's problems with the owners might be. Perhaps it has changed hands since 2009. In any event, everyone was polite, pleasant, and helpful. The cabin was comfortable and the rustic decorations were imaginative and attractive. The canyon itself was beautiful. The water in the creek was extremely low, but, surprisingly, the falls were still... More

We enjoyed our trip very much. It is a very lovely place. Unlike some other reviewers, I didn't see anything dangerous or "run-down". The people working there were extremely nice and helpful. Of course you would want to keep an eye on small children, as it is a natural environment with big rocks, drop-offs, etc. Wear sturdy, sensible shoes(I wore... More

My husband and I took our 9 year old daughter and a friend of hers the same age to explore "Dismal's Canyon" in July 2011. My first thought when we got down into the Canyon was "Man! I wish we had gotten here earlier so we had more time!!". The man at the gift shop was super nice and funny.... More

I have visited Dismals Canyon twice. The first time was in August 2007 with my sister. On that trip, I really didn't have any problems. The staff charged me and we went on our way to explore. The area is quite nice but the trails could use an overhaul. Sometimes it's tough to figure out which way you are supposed... More

Okay, I actually never did stay there but the reservation experience was dreadful. I first scheduled for Memorial Day weekend which the owner said required a three day stay. When i made the reservation the owner said that if I cancelled 30 days in advance I would get all but $13 back. I later called to change the reservation to... More
