It's good that people have stopped from going inside the sanctum sanctorum. They must be earning in millions but you wouldn't be able to guess that from the way the temple and its surroundings are. More

This Temple is over 3000 yeas old and one of the ancient shaktipeeths housing the toe of sati. Beware of the pandas who are total goons, visit with a local only or be ripped off, down to your underwear !!. Incidentally the picture is wrong, it is of Dakshineshwar temple. More

History of Kali ghat: Daksha had made a sacrifice to obtain a son however he omitted to invite Shiva. Sati lord Shiva’s wife felt indignant that this was an insult to her husband. She asked her father “why is my husband not invited?” the fathers said that her husband wears a necklace of skulls and he dopes, so how can... More

If you like walking barefoot through filth and blood in a senseless crush of people immersed in religious frenzy then the Kali Temple is for you. Domestic visitors are not necessarily tourists, and they might be having a different experience. However, foreign visitors and non-Kali worshipers may find it hard to enjoy the rude priests and guides, extraordinary shoving and... More

Dear Friend from Nevada, I had perused your review which is perhaps accurate if I am to consider the fact that the practices and rituals if evaluated through Western standards might present itself as horrendous and uneidfying to many. Since we often associative the element of fear and mystery with things which fascinate our wildest imaginations based on certain notional... More

Of course, one of the most revered Kali temple in India. Fromt he area and architecture you will also get a feel of the Zamindar (wealthy landlords acting like local kings) period of Kolkata. But, too much crowded and dirty. You need to save yourself from the pandas (priests) who will run after you explaining how much money you have... More

You don't really need to pay the Panda for the darshan. If you take a taxi, as the taxi driver to get you in. They probably can do this for you and won't charge you a dime more. It will get crowded on Fridays. More
