This is a UNESCO World Heritage train which runs from Darjeeling to Ghoom ("joy ride") - it takes about 1 hr one way with a 15 minute stop at Batasia Loop and a 30 minute stop at Ghoom. The inside of the train could do with a bit of renovation, as our first impression stepping into the train was that... More

Take a ride on this from Darjeeling to Ghoom. Ghoom is the highest altitue station in India. Ride from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back takes about 2.5 hours. In between the journey you stop at the loop which is a great place for photography. The sound of the steam engine is soothing to the ears. More

This too short train ride via the narrow gauge railway was fun. The little engine chugged along with great aplomb, tooting and rattling. If the track was repaired ( washed out ) and the ride several hours long the area would have a real touris winner. More

We had to be content with the 2 hour train ride instead of the longer all day venture (closed due to landslide). I had pictured traveling through green leafy valleys but instead got a trip through very populated areas, ending at a rather grotty little station called Ghoom where we got to spend 1/2 hour before chugging back to Darjeeling.... We did the Joy ride trip from Darjeeling to Ghum under steam. Loved every moment of it, the smell, the sound, the power, the whistle, the way it rattles along the street and the views. Booked our tickets in advance, the conductor in our carriage incouraged us to hang out of the windows to get some great camera shots. Would... More

There are perhaps 3 things that represent Darjeeling, the tea, Khonchenzonga and the Himalayan Railway. I am an avid rail fan and was really excited to be on it after having seen it in so many Indian movies. I’m sure most tourists would notice the railway tracks coming all the way from Siliguri and criss-crossing the tracks. This railway is... More

We were able to travel to and fro from darjeeling station to ghum. The total journey lasted for 2 hrs. The best part was it was a very relaxing and enjoyable journey. It was a very memorable experience. Now coming to the bad part the tickets have to be booked in advance that too from the local travel agent who... More
